Comments about the early prototype of the Livid Fish
Muskies Inc Magazine Hello, and again, thanks for visiting us at NAZE BAITS. My name is Corey Nazer. I am a high school Social Studies teacher in Medford, Wisconsin. That’s me on the left. My good friend, fishing buddy and the mastermind behind the LIVID FISH’s design is Josh. He’s on the right. Our passion for the sport of musky fishing compelled us to start a small-scale bait company that provides a unique, durable and effective product to other musky anglers. Josh and I would like to, in a few short words, introduce you to our tackle company. (Read about our early years)
NAZE BAITS is a purpose driven bait company located in the rural community of Medford, Wisconsin. Starting in 2004, NAZE BAITS began experimenting with homemade baits out of sheer curiosity. After some early, irrefutable success, Josh and I entertained the idea of sharing our vision and products with the musky fishing public. The NAZE BAITS team has numerous years of musky fishing experience. Our appreciation for the sport of musky fishing is matched only by our work ethic and commitment to quality. Josh and I have extensive and varied backgrounds in woodworking and craftsmanship that enables the NAZE BAITS company to produce well thought out, finely tuned and easily fished baits. |
All of our lures are painted with high quality automotive paints and assembled with only the strongest stainless steel hardware available. NAZE BAITS products are built to withstand the years of abuse that comes with serious musky fishing. All NAZE BAITS are manufactured right here in the United States, and better yet, right here in the Midwest. We have gone to great lengths to keep our spending on raw materials, advertising and productions right in our hometowns (read about our hometown roots).
Currently we manufacture and offer for sale four lures that we feel are quite simple in design however unique when compared to the scores of other musky lures available today. The first is the LIVID FISH, our flagship crank and jerk bait, introduced in 2004. After better than a year of perfecting a final product that would find its way into stores in 2006, our very first outing saw a 47" musky landed on a perch pattern LIVID FISH. We knew we were on to something.
Our second creation is the TIN HEAD; our no-nonsense top water lure, introduced in 2009. This bait has proven itself to be effective for those anglers that want a fun topwater lure that runs true every cast--as well as catches big fish.
In 2011 we began manufacturing our own line of wire leaders. With components rated at 200 pounds, these have proven to be 100% dependable. The same year we perfected our innovative sucker rig. Believing that expensive live suckers are too valuable to lose on just one musky or one hook set, this harness allows the anglers to set the hook hard while keeping the minnow and musky on your line.
In 2013, we introduced a "twist" on our TIN HEAD, mounting a twister-tail to the rear, increasing the length and action of the lure.
In 2013, we made an important decision concerning the manufacture of our LIVID FISH. Due to a growing demand for our "Livid", we decided the only way to grow our company and keep the consistency of our lures was to turn to plastic construction. Working with an injection molding company (Wadal Plastics) right here in my hometown of Medford, Wisconsin, we were able to successfully match the intricacies of the LIVID FISH's design and action in the water--that was critical to us. After endless trial an error with molds, injection methods, pool tests, buoyancy test and paint test, we unveiled our first line of solid plastic LIVID FISH in the spring of 2014.
2014 marked another big turning point for our company. Six fish over 50 inches were caught on LIVID FISH; including an absolute monster measuring 55 1/4 inches. The 2014 musky season proved not only could the LIVID FISH catch trophy musky, but it could also outperform other mainstream lures.

In early 2015, we made our most significant addition to our lure line up to date--a seven inch LIVID FISH. After years of customer requests for a smaller version and enough undeniable success with the nine inch LIVID FISH, we felt the time was right for us to double down on our creation. The smaller lure gives musky anglers a bait that is truly usable in any season or situation. 2015 also marked a moment I will never forget, as I was able to land my personal best musky on our own bait. This 52 1/2", 27" girth, 46 1/2 pound monster has been one of the crowning achievements for me and this small business. (Read about this fish)
